Game of Thrones Season Three Gets a Premier Date and a Poster
A few days ago, I was
searching for silly animal pictures researching very important things on the internet when I came across some information that made me clap my hands in anticipation: the premier date and promotional poster was released for season three of Game of Thrones! There are many shocking and exciting events that take place in A Storm of Swords (the Red Wedding! The other, more satisfactory wedding!), so I was eager to see what imagery they would use on the poster. Well, let’s just say it wasn’t what I expected:
*Cue the sound of crickets* Yes, the poster is underwhelming at best. I understand that minimalism can powerful, but this to me was almost like the art department saying “Ha ha nerds, all we have to put on the poster is the date! You know you’re going to watch the show no matter what!” Granted, that is a completely true statement, but I still would have liked to see a little more. Previous Game of Thrones posters have hit the mark; using an image that is simultaneously simple and striking:
I mean, come on, season three’s poster doesn’t even have an stoically grim slogan! Instead of seeing Eddard Stark on the Iron Throne and a bloodied arm grasping the Stag Crown, we are shown nothing but the date! What a tease! I realize that it is most likely just a brilliant marketing ploy to make even the subsequent poster releases a news-worthy event, but it is a tease nonetheless! I for one will be watching closely for the release of the next promotional poster, because that one damn well better show the viewers a bit more! If not, I will just have to look to clips of Tyrion slapping Joffrey to satiate my Game of Thrones fix till until March 31st.
