Libraries in Cinema

November 22, 2011 | Featured

Ever since I was a child, I’ve lusted after the Beast’s library in Beauty and the Beast. (If I ever become fabulously wealthy, I will make that happen.) I watched the movie recently (I’m not ashamed, you’re never too old for classic Disney), and it got me to thinking about other movies with library scenes. Here are ten movies that take place (at least part of the time) in a library.

  • Quotes of the Moment

“To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.”
    - Victor Hugo,

“All morning I struggled with the sensation of stray wisps of one world seeping through the cracks of another. Do you know the feeling when you start reading a new book before the membrane of the last one has had time to close behind you? You leave the previous book with ideas and themes -- characters even -- caught in the fibers of your clothes, and when you open the new book, they are still with you.”
    ― Diane Setterfield

"Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul.”
    ― Joyce Carol Oates
